remodel / addition
In this remodel / addition project, the existing footprint was maintained, and a 2nd floor addition of 3 bedrooms was added. The re-working of the roof shape to accommodate a 2nd floor addition allowed the opportunity to rework the traditional hipped-roof image of the house. The new, low sloping roofs were framed thin to give the new eaves a clean, modern line. An existing ground floor master suite was kept as a guest room but all other existing ground floor spaces now open to each other to create a new open living area including living room, kitchen and dining room. A new stairwell became an architectural feature in this space. A new entry area was created which accommodates a small office, coat closet, and powder room.
